MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, on June 3 applauded U.S. District Judge Thomas Parker’s ruling that Tennessee’s Adult Entertainment Act restricting drag performances is unconstitutional.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“I am pleased to see Judge Parker’s decision that Tennessee’s much-maligned anti-drag law is unconstitutional. The law has been ridiculed nationally and Tennessee has been derided in the press. This was the right ruling. I have known Judge Parker for many years as a thoughtful lawyer and Assistant U.S. Attorney and knew he would be a fair-minded judge and a credit to the judiciary. He has certainly enhanced the federal bench with this ruling.”
