Steve Cohen, a longstanding U.S. Congress member representing Tennessee's 9th district since 2007, has recently shared insights into various legislative issues via Twitter. Cohen, who has a background in law and political service dating back to his time in the Tennessee Senate, provides critical perspectives on recent Congress activities and the former presidential administration's policies.

On April 10, 2025, Steve Cohen expressed his opposition to proposed budget cuts endorsed by House Republicans. He stated, "House Republicans just paved the way for the largest cut to America's social safety net in history—billions stolen from SNAP & Medicaid, from children, the disabled, and seniors. All to make the rich even richer." Cohen characterized this move as "theft in broad daylight" and affirmed that he voted against it.

Later on the same day, Cohen commented on former President Donald Trump's birthday-related request for a military parade, noting that, "Trump isn’t a king. He doesn’t get taxpayer funded tanks and fighter jets for turning 79." Criticizing what he views as a waste of tax dollars, Cohen introduced "HAPPY BIRTHDAY Budget Act" to prevent the misuse of funds for such displays.

On April 11, 2025, Cohen highlighted an issue involving the Trump administration’s policies, focusing on environmental legislation. He noted that "The Trump admin opened a backdoor to exempt companies from the Clean Air Act—with ZERO public notice or accountability." Cohen, along with 59 colleagues and @SenMarkey, is seeking transparency regarding the companies involved in these exemptions, asserting a public right to this information.

Steve Cohen has served in the U.S. Congress, representing Tennessee's 9th District, since 2007. Cohen, 73, was born and resides in Memphis, Tennessee, and has an educational background with a BA from Vanderbilt University and a JD from the University of Memphis.
