Ahead of the March for Life rally in Washington, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Representative Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) have reintroduced the Woman’s Right To Know Act. The bill aims to protect the health of pregnant women and unborn children by providing adequate medical information for informed consent before abortions.
According to Senator Blackburn, the Woman’s Right to Know Act "protects the sanctity of life for women and children across the nation." She believes that the bill will set long overdue medical standards that most states have already implemented. This will ensure that women across the nation have access to vital information from their medical providers.
Representative McClain also emphasizes the importance of protecting life, stating that the Woman's Right To Know Act "ensures that women receive the critical information they need regarding their own health and their child's health." She further adds that the bill cements a standard that is already widely accepted across the nation.
The legislation has garnered significant support. Co-sponsors of the bill include U.S. Senators Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). Additionally, prominent organizations such as Susan B. Anthony List, Family Research Council, and Americans United For Life have endorsed the legislation.
The Woman’s Right to Know Act sets reasonable medical requirements for physicians to meet before performing an abortion. These requirements include explaining all the medical risks associated with the procedure, providing information about the probable gestational age and development features of the unborn child, and presenting this information at least 24 hours in advance of the abortion procedure.
