NASHVILLE, TENN. - U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-La.) have reintroduced the Protect Medicaid Act, a legislation aimed at safeguarding the integrity of Medicaid and preventing liberal states from using American taxpayers' money to subsidize healthcare benefits for illegal immigrants.

In a statement, Senator Blackburn expressed the concerns of many Americans, stating, "Tennesseans and the American people do not want their tax dollars subsidizing Medicaid for illegal immigrants. Not only is it unfair to hardworking citizens, but it incentivizes more illegal immigration and puts the care of millions of Americans on the back burner."

Dr. Cassidy echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the negative impact of providing Medicaid benefits to migrants. "Medicaid for migrants is a magnet for more illegal immigration," he warned. "This is terrible public policy for California citizens who depend on Medicaid, middle-class families paying taxes, and state debt. Taking care of the most vulnerable Americans should be our priority. Attempting to provide healthcare to everyone around the globe for free is not possible or feasible. Compassion that cannot be sustained is not compassion."

The bill addresses the issue of liberal states such as California circumventing federal law by using state funds to extend Medicaid benefits to illegal immigrants. It seeks to prohibit federal money from being used to administer state Medicaid benefits paid for by American citizens to noncitizens. If a state chooses to provide Medicaid benefits to illegal residents, the bill ensures that the state does so using its own funds, without burdening taxpayers in other states.

The Protect Medicaid Act has garnered support from additional cosponsors, including Senators Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.). These senators recognize the importance of preventing the misuse of taxpayer dollars and upholding the principle that healthcare resources should be prioritized for American citizens.

As the debate on healthcare for illegal immigrants continues, the reintroduction of the Protect Medicaid Act by Senators Blackburn and Cassidy demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the long-term integrity of Medicaid while protecting the interests of American taxpayers.
