U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee has released a video commemorating women's achievements in sports on October 10th. Earlier this year, she introduced a resolution to designate this date as 'American Girls in Sports Day.' Despite the introduction, Senate Democrats blocked the resolution last month.
The proposal comes amidst debates over athletes competing on teams that align with their birth sex. "In 2022, the Biden-Harris Department of Education announced new rules that would actually force schools to allow biological men to play on female teams," said Senator Blackburn. She believes these regulations undermine women's sports and advocates for a dedicated day to honor female athletes.
Senator Blackburn highlighted the progress made since Title IX was signed 50 years ago, noting how female athletes have gained prominence. "October 10th should still be a day we set aside and celebrate our female athletes," she stated.
