U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn has announced that the 134th Air Refueling Wing at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base in Knoxville, Tennessee, is advancing to the final phase of competition to become a main operating base for the KC-46 Pegasus aircraft. This decision by the U.S. Department of the Air Force places Tennessee among seven potential locations for this strategic role.
Senator Blackburn expressed her support for McGhee Tyson ANG Base, stating, "With decades of proven experience and service, McGhee Tyson ANG Base would be the perfect fit to receive and employ the KC-46, and I applaud the Air Force’s decision to keep Tennessee in the running."
Earlier this year, Blackburn led efforts within the Tennessee congressional delegation to advocate for McGhee Tyson as a prime candidate for housing these next-generation air refueling aircraft. She recently communicated with Air Force officials who confirmed Tennessee's continued consideration in this selection process.
McGhee Tyson ANG Base has a history of excellence with over 68 years of service and 16 Air Force Outstanding Unit awards. The acquisition of KC-46 aircraft is a top priority for the Tennessee Air National Guard due to its significant economic impact—preserving over 1,500 jobs and contributing $203 million annually.
