WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced three National Institutes of Health grants totaling $759,798 to Memphis institutions. The first, for $425,298, goes to the University of Memphis for research on “the role of the Infrapatellar Fat Pad in the Development of Post-Traumatic Osteoarthritis Following Blunt Impact to the Knee Joint,” from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. The second, for $231,000, goes to research on “the Genetic Determinants of Aspergillus host-pathogen interactions” from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. And the third, for $103,500, goes to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for research involving gene editing, also from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
“This substantial investment -- $759,798 -- in medical research at our premiere research facilities will result in greater understanding and better treatment outcomes. The National Institutes of Health recognize the high quality of research done at these institutions. I commend all three for the work they are doing.”
