Christian Brothers University Young Harris Hits Way Past Lady Bucs

Young Harris combined for 17 runs and 17 hits in a doubleheader sweep of the Christian Brothers University softball team, on Wednesday afternoon, at YHC Softball Field. The Mountain Lions took the opener 8-2, before winning game two 9-1 (5)


GAME ONE: YHC 8 (9-14) CBU 2 (3-12)  


GAME CHANGER:

YHC jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on for the win. 


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Mountain Lions had a 10-5 edge in hits. 
  • CBU was unable to take full advantage of four YHC errors. 
  • Four of the 10 YHC hits were for extra bases. 
  • Josie Bond (2-for-4) led the Lady Bucs at the plate
  • Bond and Mackenzie Bakel drove in the runs for CBU.

KEY PLAYS:

The hosts hit a 3-run home run to jump on top in the first inning. 

YHC added a pair in the third to increase its lead to 5-0. 

An RBI single by Bakel, in the fourth, cut the lead to 5-1.

YHC responded with three runs in the fifth.

CBU took advantage of a pair of errors to plate a run in the seventh on an RBI double by Bond.  


GAME TWO: YHC 9 (10-14) CBU 1 (3-13) (5) 


GAME CHANGER:

YHC took control of the game with seven runs in the fourth.  


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • YHC finished with a narrow 7-5 advantage in hits. 
  • Five different CBU players recorded hits. 
  • A double from Caroline Gross was the lone extra base hit for CBU. 
  • Kylie Burks drove in a run for the Lady Bucs.

KEY PLAYS:

CBU took a 1-0 lead, in the second, when Burks singled to drive in Caroline Gross. 

The hosts evened the game in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of a CBU miscue. 

YHC took advantage of five hits and three walks to plate seven runs in the fourth. 

The Mountain Lions finished the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
