After a few back-and-forth possessions to start the game, the Lynx were the first to strike with Avery Burke notching the first goal off a free position shot. The momentum stayed with Rhodes as Anna Erskine, Chloe Parker, and Bruner all scored before Luci Kanowsky put Capital on the board with a fast break goal. Rhodes added another 4-1 scoring run to end the first quarter with Caroline Kardian adding her first of the game while Bruner, Parker and Burke tallied their second. Capital's Grace Osborn scored a free position goal to end the first quarter 8-2.
The Lynx and Comets traded a pair of free position goals from Erskine and Julia Foresi to start the second quarter. After six minutes of strong defensive play, Burke added another free position goal for the Lynx, extending the lead 10-3. Bruner added a hat trick goal to the lead before Osborn answered back with a pair of her own for the Comets. Rhodes ended the half on a 4-1 run, extending the lead 14-6 into the break.
Rhodes put up a staunch defensive effort in the third quarter, allowing only one goal for the Comets. Parker added two goals in the third quarter while Burke scored her fourth goal of the day and Carina Wesker added her second.
While Rhodes and Capital each scored three goals in the final 15 minutes of the game, the deficit was too much to overcome for the Comets. Rhodes' midfielders ensured possession in the second half, winning 9-12 draw controls. Emma Bradley led the defense with 11 saves and three ground balls while Sophia Comrie scooped up a career-high four ground balls.
Bruner tallied three first-half assists, breaking the 200 career assists mark and setting a new Rhodes Women's Lacrosse program record. Bruner has dished out a game-high nine assists five times in her career, including twice this season alone versus Illinois Wesleyan University and Birmingham-Southern College. She finished today's game with four assists and three goals. Parker led scorers with five goals while Burke and Wesker each added four. Junior Molly Martiner tallied three assists on the day.
