The University of Memphis softball team lost to Florida Atlantic 7-4 on April 25, with redshirt junior Taylor recording her 100th career hit and freshman Stutts surpassing the milestone of pitching over 100 innings this season.
This game was significant for individual player achievements, despite the team’s defeat. The Tigers now have a record of 17-35 overall and are at 5-18 in conference play, while Florida Atlantic stands at 31-17 overall and holds a conference record of 12-11.
Memphis took an early lead with a two-RBI double in the first inning but could not maintain it as errors and timely hitting by Florida Atlantic allowed the Owls to tie and eventually win. The Tiger defense turned its twentieth double play of the season, marking the first time since 2022 that Memphis has reached this number. However, defensive miscues led to unearned runs that proved costly.
Offensively, Memphis now has recorded more hits than last season with a total of 365, tying for sixth-most in program history. The team is also close to breaking its single-season record for hit-by-pitches with a current tally of forty-two. Additionally, Memphis’ fifty-nine doubles are now sixth-most in one season for the program.
Individually, several players contributed at the plate: Davis logged her second multi-hit game of the weekend and became the first Tiger this year with twenty walks; Brown matched last year’s RBI leader with thirty-seven runs batted in; Clement added another hit against Florida Atlantic; Stutts pitched her fifth complete game while maintaining team leads in several pitching categories.
Looking ahead, Memphis will conclude its series against Florida Atlantic tomorrow at noon followed by senior day recognition after the game. Single-game tickets remain available for purchase through official channels.
