Steve Cohen, a U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee's 9th district since 2007, has been vocal on social media about political issues. His recent tweets provide insight into his views on former President Donald Trump and other political figures.
On March 3, 2025, Steve Cohen expressed strong criticism of an unnamed individual's speech. He described it as a "garbage bag of lies" and claimed that "the truth is not in him." "His speech was garbage bag of lies then and will be tomorrow. The truth is not in him."
In a tweet dated March 5, 2025, Cohen criticized Donald Trump for hypocrisy. He pointed out that Trump stood in the Capitol under the protection of Capitol Police officers whom he had previously encouraged a mob to attack and later pardoned those involved in the insurrection. Cohen remarked on this as sickening hypocrisy almost comparable to Trump's character itself. "Last night, Donald Trump stood in the Capitol, protected by the same Capitol Police officers he encouraged a violent mob to attack—then pardoned the insurrectionists who assaulted and killed them."
Later that day, Cohen addressed comments made by Jim Jordan regarding Trump being portrayed as a victim. He accused Jordan of spreading falsehoods while referencing findings from the Mueller Report and a bipartisan Senate report confirming Russian interference in U.S. elections. Cohen also mentioned individuals going to prison due to these findings but noted that Trump was not indicted because Bill Barr did not pursue it further. "Jim Jordan wants you to believe that Trump is a victim...And Trump wasn't indicted because Bill Barr wasn't man enough to do it."
