Steve Cohen, a U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee's 9th district since 2007, has been active on social media discussing various political issues. Cohen has shared his perspectives on recent developments in American politics and legislative actions.
On December 11, 2024, Steve Cohen commented on President-elect Donald Trump's decision to nominate Kash Patel as the new FBI Director, replacing Christopher Wray. Cohen expressed concern over this nomination by stating: "President-elect Donald Trump has said he intends to nominate Kash Patel to replace FBI Director Christopher Wray. An ominous day for justice and the rule of law. Trump fought the law of 10 year appointment which immunizes the director/bureau but law lost".
On December 12, 2024, Cohen addressed issues concerning airlines and their handling of wheelchairs and mobility aids. As a leading Democrat on House Aviation, he emphasized efforts made to address these concerns in the FAA reauthorization bill: "Airlines have been getting away with mishandling wheelchairs & mobility aids for years. As the top Democrat on House Aviation, I made sure we took steps to change that in this year's #FAA reauth." He urged prompt implementation of these new provisions by the FAA.
Later that day, Cohen discussed his stance on the Electoral College following comments made by Donald Trump. He advocated for its abolition and introduced a resolution aimed at achieving this goal: "Lots wrong with it, but one thing was true about Trump's rant on the Electoral College: it's time to abolish it." He called upon Republicans to support his bill following Trump's lead.
