U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee has released a video in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In her message, she encourages women to undergo their annual mammogram screenings. The senator highlights the statistic that one in eight women will face a breast cancer diagnosis during their lifetime, emphasizing the importance of regular checkups.
Last year, Senator Blackburn spearheaded a bipartisan initiative aimed at improving access to mammogram services for female veterans. This effort focused on expanding mobile mammography units, upgrading advanced equipment, and enhancing outreach efforts to better inform veterans about available screening services.
Senator Blackburn stated, "As we think about breast cancer, one in eight women is expected to experience breast cancer in her lifetime, so breast health and mammograms are important. Last year, I led an effort to make certain that our female veterans have access to mammograms, and we did that through legislation that would allow mobile mammography."
She further encouraged people to "think pink" throughout October and remind loved ones about the importance of getting a mammogram.
