WASHINGTON, D.C. - According to U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn, Tennesseans and the American people are still experiencing the negative effects of three years of inflationary spending, excessive regulations, and failed leadership under the Biden administration.

Since President Biden assumed office, inflation rates have skyrocketed. In just 17 months, it reached a four-decade high of 9.1 percent, and even now it remains elevated at 3.4 percent, which is more than double the rate inherited by President Biden. The price of various essential goods and services has also surged significantly. Clothing prices have increased by nearly 7 percent, rent prices by 19 percent, food prices by 20 percent, energy prices by 31 percent, gas prices by 34 percent, and mortgage rates are at a two-decade high. The Senate Joint Economic Committee's report reveals that families in Tennessee spent $10,344 more in 2023 compared to 2021 just to purchase the same goods and services.

It is not just inflationary spending that is causing distress for Americans. The Biden administration's excessive regulations are also creating havoc in family budgets. These regulations, which extend to various aspects of people's lives, from the type of car they can drive to the stove top they can use, are not only an attack on our freedoms but are also costing American households nearly $10,000 per year.

To combat this situation, Senator Blackburn emphasizes the urgent need to reduce the size of the federal bureaucracy and rein in inflationary spending. She has introduced legislation to cut bloated federal spending by 1%, 2%, and 5%, focusing on non-defense, non-homeland security, and non-veterans affairs discretionary spending for fiscal years 2024 and 2025. Furthermore, she highlights the importance of addressing the rising salaries and size of the federal civilian workforce, which currently consists of 2.2 million federal bureaucrats, costing Americans billions of dollars in taxes and excessive regulations.

By taking these steps, Senator Blackburn believes that it will be possible to reduce the influence of unelected bureaucrats who make decisions impacting the lives of every American. It is crucial to act now to protect future generations from unsustainable debt and ensure a more fiscally responsible government.

In conclusion, the American people continue to face the consequences of inflationary spending and excessive regulations under the Biden administration. Urgent action is required to address these issues and protect the financial well-being of American families.
