WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), whose redrawn district now includes parts of Tipton County, today applauded President Biden’s major disaster declaration for the State of Tennessee triggering the release of federal funds to help communities, including Tipton County, recover from severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes that occurred March 1-3, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

In addition, Tennessee’s major disaster declaration for the March 31 to April 1 storms and tornadoes now authorizes additional funding under FEMA’s Public Assistance program to pay for eligible permanent work to restore community infrastructure. Both Crestview Elementary and Middle Schools in Covington were badly damaged.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“This Spring’s severe storms have done serious structural damage to parts of Tipton County. My office has been working with local, state and federal officials to address the necessary cleanup and prevent further damage. I’m pleased to see the President recognizes the scope and severity of the problem.”
