Los Lynx took care of business in the first round of the SAA Conference Tournament against Hendrix! The Lynx earned the 2nd seed in the tournament and the right to host their first round matchup after going 10-4 in conference play on the regular season.
Los Lynx dominated the game from the opening tip to the final buzzer. They shot 48.4% from the field in the 1st half, including a 69.2% 1st quarter. Avery Marsh led the way for the Lynx in the first half and finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist. SAA Conference Player of the Year candidate Alexys Mathangani was not far behind Marsh and finished the half with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. The Lynx defense was all over the court and put tremendous pressure on the visiting Warriors. They held the Warriors to 30.3% shooting in the 1st half, including 16.7% in the 1st. The Lynx were able to get a lead on crucial battles in the 1st half. They won the rebounding battle 21-14, the bench battle 16-3, and the paint battle 22-2. Taylor Dupree and Giana Vlahakos were massive in these. Dupree finished the half with 6 points and Vlahakos finished the half with 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Camille Chase added 4 points of her own. Coach Rogan's freshman bench unit stepped up when the Lynx needed them most.
The 2nd half was much of the same for the Lynx. They led for the entire half and game. The final result never being in doubt. Marsh continued her offensive showcase and finished the game with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Mathangani finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Taya Lee joined the Lynx scoring barage and finished the game with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Continuing Lee's dominance of the paint she's shown all season long. Speaking of paint dominance, the Warriors had no answer for Vlahakos in the game. She finished with an impressive stat line, and a double-double. She had 12 points, 16 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks. Dupree, who is 7th in the NCAA in blocks, shut down the paint for the Warriors and had 3 blocks in the half. The Lynx control over the key battles of the game continued in the 2nd half. By the final buzzer, they won the rebounding battle 62-29, the bench battle 31-7, and the paint battle 46-14. At the buzzer, the final score was Warriors 59 and Lynx 76.
Los Lynx will be back in action for Round 2 of the SAA Tournament next Saturday in Danville, Kentucky. Roll Lynx!
