Rhodes College Los Lynx Beat Sewanee On Senior Day

Los Lynx took down their SAA rival, the Sewanee Tigers, on Senior Day Sunday afternoon in Mallory Gymnasium. Prior to the game, the three Lynx seniors, Taya Lee, Libby Long, and Alexys Mathangani, were honored for their dedication and commitment to Rhodes during their extremely successful careers. The Rhodes Women's Basketball program would not be where it is without these three women. 

Today's contest was decided early in the 1st half. The Lynx came out on fire. They shot 51.6% from the field in the half, and 42.9% from three. Lee made her presence known down low with 11 points and 2 steals in the 1st half. Mathangani wasn't far behind and finished the half with 7 points and 3 assists. Giana Vlahakos had a big game off the bench for the Lynx and finished the half with 6 points and 6 rebounds. Vlahakos was key in the paint and bench battles. The Lynx out-rebounded the Tigers 25-10 in the half and their bench out-scored the Tigers 17-2. Their defense also came ot play on Senior Day. They held the Tigers to 16.7% shooting in the half (20% in the 1st qtr/12.5% in the 2nd qtr). At the break, the Lynx led 43-13.

The 2nd half was much of the same for the Lynx. They shot 61.5% in the 3rd qtr to put the game even more out of reach for the Tigers than it already was. Long got in on the offensive action this half by going 3-3 from three and finished the game with 11 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. Mathangani continued her hot shooting and finished the game with 15 points, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds. Vlahakos was a force on the inside this half and finished the game with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Kearstn Seay did a little bit of everything for the Lynx in the win and finished with 5 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist. Avery Marsh added ran the offense beautifully and finished the game with 2 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds. The Lynx paint and bench dominance continued until the final buzzer. They out-rebounded the Tigers 53-23, out-scored them in the paint 40-16, and out-scored them from the bench 34-6. Coach Rogan let a few of his younger players have extended run in the 2nd half. Saylor Donaldson added 8 points, Juliet Howell had 7 points, and Audrey Griffith had 5 points. At the final buzzer, the Lynx won 78-38.
