The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (7-6, 3-3 Great Midwest) hosted Kentucky State University (6-5, 4-2 SIAC) on Saturday afternoon and won 65-60.
THE SERIES
The all-time series is now tied at 2-2, with the Trojans winning the previous meeting on January 25th, 2017, at Trojan Fieldhouse by a score of 70-57.
THE FLOW
The Trojans started hot as they jumped to an 8-2 lead capped off by a Faith Wilken three-pointer with 6:21 left in the first quarter. The Trojans extended their lead to 17-9 following a Bayleigh Carmichel three-pointer to end the quarter. Trevecca scored seven straight points to start the second quarter to bring their lead to 15. Then, with 4:48 left in the half, Lili Wilken hit a three-pointer to make the Trojans lead 31-14. Kentucky State fought back and trimmed the lead to 33-19 heading into the half.
The Trojans continued their momentum into the second half as they extended their lead to 48-27 with 2:14 left in the third quarter following a 12-3 run led by six points from Emma Palmer. Kentucky State fought back hard as they cut the Trojan's 21-point lead down to seven as they scored 14 straight points to make it 48-41 with 6:47 left. Kentucky State then brought the game to 52-50 with 3:39 left. Lili Wilken made a pair of three-pointers to give the Trojans a five-point lead with 1:53 left. Kentucky State got within 58-57, but the Trojans would hold on to their lead.
THE PLAYERS
Lili Wilken had 16 points and four rebounds to lead the Trojans. Keeley Carter had 15 points and eight rebounds. While Faith Wilken added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the doble-double.
THE TEAMS
The Trojans shot 31.9% (22-69) from the floor, 27.3% (9-33) from three-point range, and 66.7% (12-18) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Kentucky State 49-35.
