Rhodes College Men's Basketball Win 7th Straight and Clinch Best Start in 22 Years

Men's Basketball continued the historic start to the season with their 7th straight win over the Huntingdon Hawks on the road Wednesday afternoon. The win secures the team's best start since the 1999-2000 season.

Unlike the last few contests, the Lynx were in a battle with the Hawks until the final buzzer. The first half was extremely competitive. The Hawks led by 6 early, but the Lynx defense was able to keep them in the game. They forced 6 Hawks turnovers and held them to 38% shooting in the half. After a 6-0 run by the Lynx, tied the game up and would eventually head into the 2nd half with a small 31-28 lead. Freshman dynamite Phil Dotson jump-started the offensive attack for the Lynx. He led all scorers in the game with 12 pts in the first half, including 3 three-pointers. Senior Koki Wiley continued to be Mr. Do It All for the Lynx. He was all over the court and finished the half with 6 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds. Senior Jefferson Walker also had a very good half, finishing with 7 points and 3 assists.

The 2nd half was back-and-forth until the final seconds of the game. Wiley took the baton from Dotson and led the Lynx on the offensive end in the half. He finished the game with a double-double (17 points and 10 rebounds) and made multiple big plays down the stretch. Wiley has dominated the glass all season and is currently ranked 1st is the SAA with 8.4 rebounds per game. Walker had a very similar half to his 1st half. He hit some clutch free throws down the stretch and finished the game with 14 pts, 5 assists, 2 steals. With the Lynx down by 1 with under 60 seconds to go, Senior Jalen Essick made his presence known with a huge basket to give the Lynx the lead, one they would not give back. Wiley would seal the win at the FT line to give the Lynx a 64-59 victory.

The Lynx historic start to the season is not one to be ignored. This team's hard work and dedication to Rhodes is present every time they take the court. Despite playing their 4th game in 8 days, they took care of business and focused in when it mattered most. The Lynx are talented, mature, and together. A great recipe for a successful season. They will be back in action on Dec. 17 at 2pm at home against Huntingdon College.
