The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team had Nmeso Nnebedum and Kam Vick named to the 2022-23 Gulf South Conference Top Newcomers list, and was picked to finish 12th in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
Nnebedum, a native of Kalamazoo, Mich., comes to CBU after transferring from South Suburban College (Ill.), where he helped the Bulldogs claim the 2021-22 NJCAA Division II National Championship. As a sophomore, Nnebedum averaged 12 points, two assists and two rebounds per contest, while also shooting 48 percent from long-range. He was also named to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team.
Vick transferred to CBU from National Park College (Ark.), where he averaged 12.2 points 3.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds per contest. Vick finished his sophomore campaign 47 percent from the floor and 41 percent from beyond the three point line. Vick was a two-time All-Region selection, and finished his career at NPC as the leader in free throws made (193), three-pointers made (125), assists (264), steals (58) and points scored (918).
CBU returns nine players from last season, including its top four leading scorers (Daniel Loos, Nick Deifel, Aiden Ruthsatz, Luke Gdowski). Deifel and Ruthsatz have combined to play in 173 career contests, while Loos returns after a solid second season that saw him average a team-high 12.8 points per game.
The Bucs are scheduled to open their season on Sunday, Oct. 23, when they face Memphis in an exhibition contest. Tipoff is set for 4 PM.
