University of Memphis Tigers Welcome Golden Hurricane for Final Home Game of Regular Season

Following their second consecutive American Athletic Conference win of the season, the Memphis Tiger women's soccer team will welcome Tulsa to the Bluff City for a Thursday night showdown.

Memphis (6-4-4, 2-1-3 AAC) picked up a 2-0 shutout over Temple this past Sunday afternoon where Mya Jones and Haylee Spray notched goals in the 17' and 66'. Along with a stellar offensive performance, the Tiger defense held Temple to just one shot the entire match and kept the Owl offense silent for 66 consecutive minutes of play.

"Temple is never an easy place to play so being able to go in and being able to go in and get a conference win is big for us," said Memphis Tiger head women's soccer coach Brooks Monaghan. "We need to take that momentum and performance into the next match."

For the season, Jones and Jocelyn Alonzo have been the driving forces; Jones leads the team with six goals while Alonzo has recorded three goals and a team-high six assists. Nine other Tigers have recorded goals this season while redshirt junior Claire Wyville has five shutouts under her belt, ranking her third in the AAC in total shutouts this season.

Tulsa (7-5-3, 2-2-2 AAC) is coming off a 3-2 loss to UCF this past weekend. After Tulsa's Isold Runarsdottir tied the match at 2-2 in the 52', UCF would get a goal from Kristen Scott in the 60' to take the lead, and eventual win.

"This is a massive game for us," said Monaghan. "They're sitting in fourth place and having a good season and their coach has done a tremendous job with them so we're going to have to be at our best to give ourselves a good chance to win."

For the season, Madison Tokarchik leads the team with five goals while four other Golden Hurricane players have scored multiple goals this year. Tatum Sanders has been the go-to in goal for Tulsa this season with 34 saves in 10 appearances and just five goals allowed in 810 minutes of work.

The Tigers have seen great success over Tulsa in recent years, claiming four wins in the last five match-ups between the teams. Last season when the two teams met, Memphis controlled the match from the start, scoring in the 2' and again in the 42' for an early 2-0 lead. That lead would hold after the Tiger defense held Tulsa to just three shots in the second half.

Thursday's match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time at the Track & Soccer Complex. Coverage of the match can be found on ESPN+.
