Cost of college went up for all students at Southwest Tennessee Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.4 percent for 2018-19 at Southwest Tennessee Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Tennessee residents paid $4,255 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $100 more than the $4,155 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 288.8 percent more than residents this year, or $16,543. Their price tag grew 2.6 percent from $16,131 in 2017-18.

About 97 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Tennessee residents. And about 3 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 92 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,915 students received grants or scholarships totaling $11 million.

Including all undergraduates (9,347), 6,648 students used grants or scholarships totaling $30.3 million.
