Steve Cohen, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Tennessee’s 9th district, has taken to social media to express his concerns regarding the future of Social Security under Republican influence. Known for his direct communication style, Cohen shares insights and criticisms through his Twitter account.

On March 24, 2025, Cohen tweeted about the Republican Party’s alleged strategy concerning Social Security. He stated, “Republicans are trying to destroy Social Security.” He elaborated on this claim by suggesting that there is a plan to reduce staff and services in order to drive the system towards privatization. According to Cohen, even some GOP voters at his Town Hall meeting expressed dissatisfaction with these actions.

Two days later, on March 26, 2025, Cohen commented on new reports that purportedly confirm deliberate efforts by the Trump administration to undermine Social Security customer service. In his tweet he noted: “New reporting confirms it: The Trump administration is deliberately sabotaging Social Security customer service.” He pointed out issues such as longer wait times and fewer staff as part of a strategy aimed at frustrating Americans into accepting privatization.

Later that day, Cohen questioned claims made by former President Trump regarding transparency within his administration. He posted a tweet asking rhetorically: “Trump and his team have been saying for months that it’s the most transparent presidency ever.” He suggested skepticism towards these claims by questioning whether such transparency might be excessive.
