Steve Cohen, U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 9th district since 2007, posted a series of tweets on November 7, 2025, addressing federal shutdown impacts, food assistance funding, and international developments involving former President Donald Trump.
In his first post on the morning of November 7, Cohen wrote: “Flights are being cut because the GOP shutdown left air traffic controllers unpaid. They’re doing their jobs under impossible stress while Trump plays politics to push budget cuts. I wrote the #AviationFundingStabilityAct to keep the FAA running in a shutdown—but Speaker Johnson”.
Later that day, Cohen commented on legal actions related to food assistance programs: “Trump filed an appeal JUST YESTERDAY on a court order mandating him to fully fund SNAP. And they expect you to believe it’s the Democrats fault? It’s pretty clear who’s trying to take food away from children, seniors & people with disabilities—it’s the ones actively denying”.
In his third tweet of the day, Cohen criticized recent developments in Serbia: “Serbian Lawmakers Approve Luxury Trump Hotel on Historic Bombing Site https://t.co/tFUa4nJ5AW via @NYTimes// just like the Eastwing just like his attitude of Kennedy Center just like the way he tore down. Bonwit Teller. No regard for history, no regard for public opinion simply”.
Cohen has represented Tennessee’s 9th District since succeeding Harold Ford Jr. in Congress and previously served in the Tennessee Senate from 1983 to 2003. Born and residing in Memphis, Cohen earned degrees from Vanderbilt University and the University of Memphis.
