Steve Cohen, a U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 9th district since 2007, has recently made several public statements on social media regarding ethical and constitutional issues. Known for his legislative efforts and outspoken nature, Cohen’s recent tweets address concerns about ethics in Congress and presidential powers.

On December 5, 2024, Cohen expressed his intent to demand a vote on the House Floor for the release of the full Ethics report concerning Matt Gaetz. He criticized Republicans for allegedly using the Ethics Committee as a means to conceal violations rather than adjudicate them. Cohen emphasized that “the public deserves to know what’s in that report.” “I’ll be on the House Floor demanding a vote on the release of the FULL Ethics report on #MattGaetz.”

The following day, December 6, 2024, Cohen thanked Pod Save America for highlighting his proposed Constitutional amendment aimed at limiting presidential pardon power. He noted that he has been advocating for this amendment since 2017 without receiving support from any Republican cosponsors. He stated it is “the right thing to do no matter who is in office.” “Big thanks to @PodSaveAmerica for highlighting my Constitutional amendment to limit the President’s pardon power.”

Later on December 6, Cohen commented again on the ethics report related to Matt Gaetz. He expressed disappointment over nearly unanimous Republican votes against releasing the report, calling it “disgusting given what we know.” “Disgusting given what we know yet all but one Republican voted to hide Matt #Gaetz ethics report.”
