Steve Cohen, U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 9th district since 2007, posted a series of tweets criticizing former President Donald Trump and recent political developments involving the Department of Justice and Supreme Court rulings.
On February 18, 2026, Cohen commented on federal investigations and indictments by stating, “They say a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich. Trump & Bondi’s DOJ can’t even do that. They tried to go after Letitia James, they tried James Comey, they tried to take down 6 Members of Congress over an ad—strike out, strike out, strike out. These are revenge fishing”.
The following day, February 19, Cohen addressed his decision to abstain from attending an official address at the Capitol: “I won’t sit in the People’s House and listen to a convicted felon deliver another night of lies about ICE killings, his vanity projects, or self-serving pardons while the GOP cheers. I’ll skip the spectacle & spend the night at the People’s State of the Union w/ @MoveOn,”.
On February 20, Cohen reacted to a Supreme Court ruling regarding tariffs imposed by Trump: “MAJOR TRUMP LOSS SCOTUS ruled he has NO authority to impose his tariff regime. Trump tariffs have already been raising prices + inflation for months—now the unwind will bring even more whiplash. This is what happens when trade policy is driven by ego instead of expertise, or”.
Steve Cohen has represented Tennessee’s 9th District in Congress since replacing Harold Ford Jr. in 2007 and previously served in the Tennessee Senate from 1983 to 2003. Born in Memphis in 1949 and currently residing there at age 73, Cohen holds degrees from Vanderbilt University (BA) and the University of Memphis (JD).
