Steve Cohen, U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 9th district since 2007, recently addressed several national issues on his social media account, including the Trump administration’s actions in Venezuela and the expiration of Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits.
On January 3, 2026, Cohen posted about his appearance on CNN with Jim Sciutto to discuss recent U.S. government actions regarding Venezuela. He stated, “I joined Jim Sciutto on CNN to talk about the Trump administration’s actions involving Venezuela — which they’ve carried out with zero briefings to Congress — and to share my perspective as a member of the House Intelligence Committee. Watch here: https://t.co/TyONs3xDC3”.
Later that day, Cohen criticized both the Venezuelan regime and U.S. executive action without Congressional oversight. On January 3, he wrote, “Maduro is an illegitimate dictator. But even removing a brutal regime doesn’t justify violating the Constitution by engaging in an act of war without Congressional authorization—or acting without a clear plan for what comes next.
The US has paid a heavy price for this kind of”.
On January 5, Cohen shifted focus to domestic policy, specifically health insurance costs. He posted, “If you notice your health insurance costs jump this month, remember why: because the GOP let ACA tax credits expire.
That was a choice.
Republicans found time for lots of political distractions—even for war in Venezuela—but not for lowering your costs. You’re paying more”.
Cohen has represented Tennessee’s 9th district since replacing Harold Ford Jr. in 2007 and previously served in the Tennessee Senate from 1983 to 2003. Born in Memphis in 1949 and currently residing there at age 73, Cohen holds degrees from Vanderbilt University and the University of Memphis.
