Steve Cohen, U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 9th district since 2007, shared a series of posts on social media addressing ongoing political developments and criticizing Republican actions amid a government shutdown.
On November 3, 2025, Cohen posted praise for fellow Representative Joe Neguse, stating, “Joe Neguse absolutely knocks it out of the park!”
Continuing his commentary on November 4, 2025, Cohen criticized Republican lawmakers over the ongoing government shutdown. He wrote, “Five weeks into the GOP shutdown and Republicans still refuse to negotiate. They’d rather starve poor people and kids who depend on SNAP than restore the health care tax credits that help 81,000 people in Memphis afford coverage—all to pay for tax breaks for some of the”
Later that same day, Cohen posted another message referencing current events: “Scrooge comes early this year”
Cohen has represented Tennessee’s 9th district in Congress since replacing Harold Ford Jr. in 2007 and previously served two decades in the Tennessee Senate. Born in Memphis in 1949 and currently residing there at age 73, Cohen is an alumnus of Vanderbilt University and holds a law degree from the University of Memphis.
