Steve Cohen, U.S. Congressman representing Tennessee’s 9th district and a Memphis native, posted a series of statements on April 7, 2026, addressing local milestones and national issues.
In his first post of the day, Cohen celebrated a significant event in Memphis: “Had the honor of joining the Memphis Zoo on Saturday to celebrate its 120th anniversary. Proud to speak at the ribbon-cutting ceremony kicking off this milestone year for one of Memphis’s most beloved institutions.” (April 7, 2026).
Later that afternoon, Cohen addressed international concerns regarding proposed U.S. military actions in Iran. He wrote: “Trump’s proposed attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran tonight must be stopped. Calling for the end of Persian ‘civilization’ is a call for genocide, and any decent human being must oppose it. See my full statement here: https://t.co/RFSgSn9pzE” (April 7, 2026).
That evening, Cohen shared insights from his participation at an annual policy summit focused on drug prevention. He stated: “Attended a panel at the 15th Annual Rx & Illicit Drug Summit today where a Republican claimed Democrats are keeping DHS unfunded, hurting drug prevention efforts. I countered that these efforts aren’t hindered by banning masks or wearing body cameras. Reforms prioritize safety.” (April 7, 2026).
Cohen has served as U.S. Representative since replacing Harold Ford Jr. in 2007 and previously held office in the Tennessee Senate from 1983 to 2003. Born in Memphis in 1949 and currently residing there at age 73, he holds degrees from Vanderbilt University and the University of Memphis.
