The University of Memphis men’s golf team finished the opening round of the American Conference Championships tied for second place on April 27. The event took place at The Ritz-Carlton Members Club in Sarasota, Florida.
This performance puts Memphis in a strong position as they continue in the tournament. After carding a team score of 16-under-par 272, the Tigers are tied with Rice and just one stroke behind Charlotte, who lead at 17-under-par.
Senior O’Connor led the individual standings by shooting a 7-under-par 65 and holds a one-stroke lead over Charlotte’s Seb Cave going into the second round. Another Tiger golfer backed up O’Connor’s effort with a score of 67 to sit in seventh place, while two more teammates each shot rounds of two-under-par 70 to finish day one tied for fourteenth.
Team standings after day one show Charlotte leading with a score of 271 (-17), followed by Memphis and Rice at 272 (-16). South Florida, East Carolina, and UAB are tied for fourth at six under par.
