The University of Memphis women’s tennis team lost 5-0 to No. 69 Liberty on March 8 in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The match was notable as Memphis could only field five players, resulting in a forfeit on court six and only two doubles matches being played. In doubles, Clemence Thoaurd and her partner fell 6-0 on court two, which clinched the doubles point for Liberty. The match on court one was tied at 2-2 before it was left unfinished.

Liberty entered singles play with a 2-0 lead due to the Memphis forfeit. The Flames won the first set in all five singles matches. On court five, Celina Joseph defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0. Liberty secured the overall victory after wins on courts three and four. One Memphis player managed to win the second set in her singles match before it was left unfinished.

Following this loss, Memphis’s season record stands at 2-11. The team is scheduled to play next against the University of California, Santa Barbara on Friday, March 13 in Santa Barbara, California with first serve set for 3 p.m.
