The University of Memphis baseball team defeated the University of Alabama at Birmingham 13-9 on April 25, evening their weekend series at Young Memorial Field.
The game was marked by a strong offensive showing from Memphis, who recorded 14 hits and drew eight walks. The Tigers scored in five different innings and capitalized on four runs in the seventh inning, which proved decisive. They also applied pressure on the basepaths, stealing multiple bases and forcing three errors from UAB.
Several players contributed to the win with multi-hit games. One player led with three hits and three runs batted in, while others including Smith IV each added two hits. A key two-run home run helped extend Memphis’ lead early in the game. On the mound, one pitcher earned his fourth win of the season after pitching six innings, while another secured a save in relief.
Notable performances included Rodriguez increasing his season stolen base total to 34, leading both the conference and ranking among national leaders. Hernandez remained perfect on stolen bases this year with a record of 19-for-19. Gupton added two more steals for a total of twelve this season.
Memphis will look to secure a series victory against UAB in their next matchup scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
