The University of Memphis men’s golf team took the lead on April 28 after a strong performance in the second round of the American Conference Championships at The Ritz-Carlton Members Club in Sarasota, Florida.
The team’s surge was marked by a collective score of 14-under-par 274 for the day, bringing their total to 30-under for the tournament. This effort put Memphis four strokes ahead of Charlotte, which sits in second place at 26-under as they head into the final day.
One Memphis golfer climbed six spots on the leaderboard to take over first place individually with a score of 7-under-par 65, moving to a total of 12-under for the tournament and holding a one-stroke lead over other competitors. Two teammates each shot rounds of three-under-par 69 to join another Tiger player in a tie for tenth place at five under overall. Another member remains in contention, sitting at nineteenth after carding a one-under-par round.
The current standings show Memphis leading with a two-round total of 546 (30 under), followed by Charlotte (550), Rice (559), and South Florida (560). The final round is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29.
As teams prepare for the concluding day, Memphis aims to secure its position and clinch the conference title.
