The University of Memphis men’s golf team finished in second place at the American Conference Championships, with junior Lourenco claiming the Individual Championship on April 29 at The Ritz-Carlton Members Club in Sarasota, Florida.

This result is significant for the Tigers, as it marks their best overall team finish since winning the American Conference Championship in 2019. Lourenco’s victory also represents the program’s first individual conference champion since Jonathan Fly won the Conference USA title in 2011.

Lourenco tied with Charlotte’s Chase Cline at 14-under par after three rounds, which led to a sudden-death playoff. Lourenco secured his second win of the season after Cline was forced to take a penalty drop on the playoff hole. He finished with a total score of 202 (67-65-70), breaking his previous personal record for a 54-hole tournament by three strokes.

Other Memphis players also posted strong performances. Two teammates each shot final-round scores of 73 to tie for fourteenth place at four-under-par (212), and another player finished just one stroke behind them at three-under-par (213). The team’s combined score was enough to secure second place behind Charlotte, who won with an overall score of 816 (-48).

The final standings saw Charlotte in first place, followed by Memphis and Rice. Additional teams included South Florida, UAB, North Texas, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, UTSA, Wichita State, and Temple rounding out the field.
