FOIA Request to Visible Music College Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.
As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in educational institutions, we at Memphis Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Visible Music College. Our request seeks detailed information concerning the presence and support of Chinese National students within the institution.
The specific records requested include:
1. Documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If individual names are protected under privacy laws, we have asked for a total count of such students broken down by department.
2. Information regarding scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.
3. Details about any scholarships granted through affiliations with the Chinese Scholarship Council, ensuring clarity on which scholarships fall under this category if they overlap with those mentioned in our second request.
4. Policies or procedures implemented by the university to monitor students, including Chinese Nationals, aimed at safeguarding the university’s Intellectual Property and other confidential information.
Our inquiry is made on behalf of both Memphis Standard and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As media professionals dedicated to providing comprehensive news coverage and promoting governmental transparency, we believe that access to these public records is crucial for holding institutions accountable and informing the public effectively.
We have also requested a fee waiver based on our role in disseminating information as members of the media. This aligns with our mission to pull back the curtain on government actions and contribute meaningfully to public discourse.
