The Memphis Tigers softball team secured a comeback victory against Florida Atlantic on April 26, highlighted by a walk-off two-run home run in the seventh inning at the Tigers Softball Complex. The win marked Senior Day for the Tigers and ended with a three-run rally that overcame earlier errors.

The game was significant as it represented Memphis’ first-ever program win against Florida Atlantic after previously losing nine straight matchups. The result also gave the Tigers their sixth conference win of the season, surpassing last year’s total and marking their best performance since 2018.

Both teams kept each other scoreless through the first inning, with defensive plays including a double play by Memphis after an appeal confirmed an early tag-up by Florida Atlantic’s runner. In the third inning, Memphis took a narrow lead following a triple and sacrifice fly, which prompted a pitching change for Florida Atlantic. However, errors contributed to two runs for Florida Atlantic in the fourth and another in the fifth.

Despite being down entering their final at-bat, Memphis rallied in dramatic fashion. A one-out double set up an RBI single to cut into the deficit before a strikeout left them down to their last out. Then, with two outs, Caton hit an elevated pitch over left field for her first career walk-off home run, securing victory for her team.

Several individual performances stood out: Davis finished with multiple hits and now leads the team in doubles alongside Taylor; Cunningham continued her strong defensive season with her assist total ranking among national leaders; Stutts earned her seventh pitching win of the year; Dugar moved into eighth place all-time in career innings pitched at Memphis; Brown contributed two scoreless relief innings without allowing any earned runs.

Memphis’ offense this season has produced notable milestones including tying or surpassing records for doubles (61), triples (17), home runs (39), sacrifice hits (48), RBI (207), hits (372), and total bases (584). The seniors honored after the game combined for three hits, two runs scored and one RBI during Senior Day festivities.

Looking ahead, Memphis will finish its regular season on the road at Wichita State following Wichita’s midweek contest against Kansas.
