U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn, Jim Risch, and several colleagues have introduced the American Values Act in Washington, D.C. The proposed legislation aims to permanently enforce and expand existing restrictions on using U.S. foreign assistance funds for abortion services abroad.

Senator Blackburn emphasized the importance of protecting human life globally, stating that using taxpayer dollars for overseas abortions contradicts American values. She remarked, “This bill would strengthen the existing restrictions on the use of foreign assistance for abortions, making it crystal clear such actions will not be tolerated.”

Senator Risch highlighted that American foreign aid should align with national values and should not support abortion services. He stated, “I’m proud to introduce the American Values Act with my colleagues to hold our government accountable to this standard and protect the sanctity of life across the globe.”

Senator Markwayne Mullin noted the significance of ensuring that taxpayer money is not used for funding abortions domestically or internationally. He said, “Our nation was founded on the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and it’s our job to protect those values.”

Dr. Rand Paul expressed concerns about fiscal responsibility and opposed taxpayer-funded abortions abroad. He commented, “It’s bad enough that Washington spends recklessly at home, but using taxpayer dollars to promote abortion abroad is an insult to both life and fiscal responsibility.”

Senator Rick Scott described it as troubling that U.S. tax dollars could potentially fund overseas abortions. He asserted that their act ensures these funds help families instead of harming human life.

Senator Steve Daines pointed out a rejection of what he termed a radical pro-abortion agenda with President Trump’s election. He stated his pride in introducing legislation aimed at ending U.S.-funded abortions abroad.

Lastly, Senator Bill Hagerty expressed strong opposition to sending taxpayer dollars overseas for abortion purposes. He supported closing loopholes through permanent restrictions on such funding.

The American Values Act seeks to clarify prohibitions under the Foreign Assistance Act regarding abortion-related activities and enact long-standing appropriations restrictions on lobbying or managing programs related to coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.
